The Griffin was a village local for years before it closed. It reopened in 2026 as Jade Palace, and inside it still feels like a pub: the bar has stayed, and the dining room has been done up around it.
The kitchen is run by the people behind Sun Wah, the takeaway on Chester Road in Rossett. Their regulars gave them the confidence to open a proper restaurant, and they brought the menu with them, numbers and all.

“Honestly, they were the best ribs I have ever tasted.”
Eat in and they arrive in a small pan over a tea light, so the sauce stays warm to the last rib. There are six sauces: salt & pepper, sweet & sour, Singapore BBQ, OK, Kimdo and honey chilli.

Laksa, sambal and mee goreng.
Next to the Cantonese dishes you know, the menu goes further south: a laksa curry with curry leaves, sambal made with galangal, lemongrass and shrimp paste, and Penang-style mee goreng.
