KH Painting & Decorating · North West England

Painter, decorator and spray finisher in the north west

I’m Kenny. I paint and decorate houses across the north west of England, and I spray the things a brush cannot do properly — UPVC, garage doors, render and kitchen doors.

  • Free quotes, no obligation
  • One man, one job at a time
  • Photographs at the end of every day

Why people ring Kenny

  • It is me on the job

Not a team, not a subcontractor in a van with my name on it. You deal with me from the first phone call to the last coat.

  • You stay in the house

Dust extracted at the sanding pad as it is made, so it ends up in the machine instead of through your rooms.

  • I spray as well as brush

UPVC, garage doors, render and kitchen doors — surfaces a brush cannot do properly, finished as they should be.

  • Photographs every day

A message at the end of each day showing what got done, including the days the weather stopped me.

Specialist work

The two things most decorators round here don’t do

Any decorator can paint a wall, and plenty of them do it well. These two are the reason people ring me rather than the man down the road.

Spray finishing

UPVC windows, garage doors, render, cladding, kitchen doors and furniture. On a hard, non-absorbent surface a brush leaves marks that never level out, because the paint has nothing to sink into. Sprayed, it lands as an even film — into the rebates and the beading at the same thickness as on the flat.

The spraying itself is the quick part. The masking is the job, and the masking is what you are paying for.

  • Glass and seals masked
  • Even film, no brush marks
  • Ground sheeted before I start

What can be sprayed, and what can’t

Dustless sanding

The sander runs connected to an extractor and the dust is pulled off through the abrasive as it is made, so it goes into a filtered machine instead of into your carpets, your curtains and the top of every picture frame in the house.

It means you can carry on living in the house while I work, and it means the surface I am painting is clean — which shows up in the finish as well as in the hoovering.

  • Extracted at the pad
  • Fine dust retained, not blown back
  • Furniture stays where it is

Before and after

The masking is the job

Two of mine, photographed mid-job and again at the end. The first is what the preparation for spraying actually looks like: every window wrapped, the repairs patched in, the ground sheeted.

…Absolutely superb service and quality work. Quoted for 5 days work and managed to get us back in the space half way through the 4th day, with the space immaculate.…

What I do

What I can do for you

Each one says how it is applied, because that is the question that actually separates one decorator from the next: sprayed, hand-painted, or whichever the surface calls for.

  • Fantastic job by Kenny - decorated 2 bedrooms for me at pretty short notice. He’s clearly a perfectionist with great results! Was prompt and kept me informed at all times.…

How it works

How a job runs, start to finish

Same for a feature wall as for a full exterior. The only difference is how long each step takes.

  1. You ring, or you send the form

Tell me what the job is and roughly when you want it. If I can answer a question on the phone in two minutes I would rather do that than have you fill anything in.

    Same day, usually

  2. I come and look at it

Free, and there is no obligation attached to it. I need to see the surfaces before I can price the work — particularly on spraying, where what needs masking is most of what needs quoting. I will tell you if I think a job is not worth doing, or is somebody else’s trade.

    Free, no obligation

  3. A written quote, itemised

What I am doing, what I am using, how many coats, and how long it will take. If there is something I would do differently from what you have asked for, it is in there with the reason, and you can ignore it.

    In writing

  4. A date I can actually keep

I work on my own and on one job at a time, so I do not book two things into the same week. On outside work the date is a week rather than a day, because the weather decides and pretending otherwise wastes both our time.

    One job at a time

  5. Photographs at the end of every day

You get a message with pictures of what got done, including on the days when the weather stopped me and the answer is "nothing outside today". If you are out at work while I am in the house, that is how you know where the job is up to.

Every day, including the bad ones

  6. Cleared up as I go, not at the end

Covers down before anything starts, dust extracted as it is made, and each room usable again at the end of the day rather than left as a building site until Friday.

    Daily, not weekly

  7. Looked over before the van is loaded

You look it over with me before I pack up. Anything you are not happy with, I put right then — easier for both of us than a phone call a fortnight later.

    Before I leave

About Kenny

What I do, and where

I’m a time-served painter and decorator. I do the ordinary work — walls, ceilings, woodwork, papering, the outside of the house — and I do two things most decorators round here don’t: I spray, and I sand with extraction so the dust doesn’t end up through your house.

It’s me on the job. Not a team, not a subcontractor turning up in a van with my name on it. That means I can only be in one place at a time, so the dates I give you are real ones, and it means you deal with one person from the quote to the last coat.

Most of my work comes from people who have had me before, or from their neighbours. That is the way I would rather it stayed, which is a reasonable summary of how I approach a job.

Ask for a price

Tell me what needs doing and roughly when. I read these myself and I answer them myself, usually the same day. If it is easier, ring me — I would rather have a two-minute conversation than a long form.

Whichever you would rather I used.

So I know whether I can get to you.

A couple of lines is plenty. "Garage door sprayed" tells me most of what I need.
